From the moment I laid eyes on my first dachshund, Penny, my love for this unique breed was ignited. It was during my childhood, at the tender age of five, that I began to forge a connection with these charming dogs. Inspired by the character Penny from the show "Pee-wee's Playhouse," I found myself captivated by her playful spirit and distinctive appearance. Sitting on a little footstool, I vividly remember the moment I chose the name Penny for my dog. The shimmering copper color of her fur reminded me of a shiny penny, and it felt like the perfect fit.
As I grew older, my fondness for dachshunds only deepened. Penny was not just a pet; she was a companion who filled my childhood with joy and laughter. Over the next thirty years, I welcomed numerous dogs into my life, each bringing their own unique personality and love. As a parent, I couldn't resist sharing this passion with my daughter. I gifted her two delightful dachshunds named Skittles and Snickers, introducing her to the joys of dog ownership and the special bond that exists between humans and their pets.
In my later years, I found myself drawn to a new trend in naming my dogs—flower names that reflect their colors. My Yorkshire terrier, Abigail Marigold, carried the vibrant hues of marigold flowers, while Ella Rose, my red-coated dachshund, embodied the beauty of a blooming rose. I also had Sadie Blossom, a piebald dachshund whose coat resembled delicate flower petals. Each name I chose was a reflection of their personality and appearance, bringing a touch of whimsy and affection to our household.
Now, as I cherish my current dachshund, Snickers Almond King. I am excited about the prospect of naming future boy dachshunds after candy bars. The idea of combining my love for sweets with my affection for these lovable dogs feels delightfully fitting. It is a testament to how my passion for dachshunds has evolved over the years, showing that my affection for these remarkable dogs is not just a phase but a lifelong journey.

In 2021, my mom and I started KCK9 together – a small, family-run breeding program focused on raising happy, healthy, and well-socialized Dachshunds. Every puppy we raise is treated like one of our own, because I know from experience just how big of an impact one little dog can make on your heart.
Snickers and Skittles may have started this journey, but it’s the joy in every puppy’s eyes – and every family they complete – that keeps the love alive today.
